At our organization, we believe that code should be the single source of truth — and that idea shapes the way we handle cloud governance. We use Azure Policies to audit and enforce our standards across different levels, and we manage everything through code to keep things consistent, transparent, and easy to improve. In this session, I’ll walk you through how we’ve set things up. Whether you’re already deep into Azure Policies or just starting to explore policy-as-code, I will give you practical insights into how to make governance more scalable, consistent, and engineer-friendly.

Applications break all the time, there could be a network issue, a cloud provider outage, or just a glitch in the matrix. But as a developer, you really need your applications to be resilient without the need to recover databases and restart services manually. In this session, I'll demonstrate how Dapr Workflow provides durable execution, which enables you to write reliable workflows as code. I'll go into specific workflow features, such as scheduling, sequential and parallel execution, and waiting for external events. I'll show many code samples (in C#) for each of these features and will run the applications using the Dapr CLI to demonstrate their resiliency.

During this live demo session we will explore a new PowerShell pentesting tool known as Project Blackcat. Using this tool we can use various attack vectors to compromise resource access and gain access to both Microsoft Azure and Entra. We will end the session on how detect these attack vectors using Microsoft Sentinel.

In the past, we only needed knowledge about running applications on Windows servers. Networking tasks were handled by 'the networking guys,' and in-depth knowledge was rarely required. Nowadays, running that same application in Azure demands much more. Even though the network gurus are still around, you'll most likely be responsible for at least part of the network. Another option is to opt-out of using Virtual Networks, but that would make your application less secure. Using Virtual Networks adds complexity, which impacts the required knowledge of engineers. Setting up a well-functioning Virtual Network also requires multiple components. These components most likely include Network Security Groups and Private Endpoints. Simplifying your own virtual network 'fortress' helps teams maintain control. The newly released resource, Network Security Perimeter, is here to help. In this session, we will explore what features NSP offers and how it can help you simplify your Azure network.

Azure Static Web Apps. An easy way to get a hobby site into the world for very little cost. But that's not all they can do! With a few changes to the out of the box experience, and using the standard, paid, tier we can use these Azure Resources in our enterprise architecture! We will touch upon infrastructure as code, to make reliable deployments to a known environment. We'll look into how to change the default pipeline to allow unit tests etc for the code, and deploying the same build applications into multiple environments. Finally, we'll take a look at Custom Authentication - using Auth0 to authenticate and a custom Azure Function to provide the roles for our users.

In this session, we will explore everything around Azure Verified Modules, a powerful set of Azure Bicep or Terraform templates. These sets of templates are built and maintained by Microsoft to set a standardisation for infrastructure as code templates and to elevate the quality of deployments.<br/>Azure Verified Modules are pre-built, tested, and WAF-aligned IaC templates that facilitate the deployment and management of Azure resources. These modules aim to streamline the development process by providing reusable and secure templates, reducing the need for custom coding, and minimising errors.

The authentication landscape in Azure has changed a lot. Traditionally applications used certificates, keys, passwords and many other things to be able to connect to external resources. Sometimes these methods still apply and are valid to use, but most of the time they can be insecure and are very annoying to maintain. These days authentication through identity is very popular and makes maintenance a joke. In this session I will show you what managed identities are, we will have a look into what the difference is between system-assigned and user-assigned identities and we will dive into an example application which leverages managed identities. We will also dive into using managed identities with Azure SQL Server and the quirks you need to think about.

Sometimes this doesn’t work out and we receive angry emails about the made changes. Join us in this session to learn how feature flags can be used to ship features without angry emails. Save yourself and your users time with Microsoft Entra External ID (formerly known as Azure Active Directory B2C) authentication. Microsoft Entra External ID provides built-in support for multiple identity providers, such as Google and Apple ID.
